Parkinson’s Programming

The Parkinson’s Foundation is built on community. The Foothills Area YMCA is a local community partner that is proud to offer an essential resource for those living with Parkinson’s and their families.

Rock Steady Boxing

Enables people with Parkinson’s to fight their disease through non-contact boxing style fitness classes to improve their quality of life, sense of efficacy, and self-worth. Fighters push beyond their perceived limitations and work on:

  • Speed/Agility/Footwork
  • Strength Training
  • Cognitive Training
  • Accuracy/Hand Eye- Coordination
  • Balance/Mobility

Pedaling for Parkinson's

Riding an indoor, stationary bicycle has been shown to reduce Parkinson’s motor symptoms by as much as 35%. Participants ride indoor, stationary bikes for 1 hour starting with a 10 minute warm up followed by 40 minutes at 80 to 90 RPM with resistance, and a 10 minute cool down.

Support

At the Foothills Area YMCA, we’re proud to offer specialized programs that support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease—programs that are free for all participants and their families with an active membership. Thanks to the generosity of our community donors, these classes provide connection, movement, and encouragement to those we call our “fighters.” Each year, our annual Putt for Parkinson’s event helps raise vital funds to keep these services going strong. Your support helps us continue making a difference in the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s.

Program Contact

Both Parkinson’s programs require a consultation with the coordinator and medical release from a medical professional. For more information, please contact Kim Wyatt at [email protected] or call 864-571-9622.
